Well, it was a bit challenging for a sailor of my abilities, but at least I got out and lived to write about it.
Actually, the sailing was pretty good, starting at about 2:30. Most rigged sails in the 5.5M range and were fine, if not slightly overpowered during approaches to rather large breaking swells. Personally, I was only out for about 1/2 hour, but had some good reaches. If it wasn't filled in the way it was it would've been quite difficult getting through the numerous broken and breaking waves. But it was filled in pretty nicely.
I got my camera out just for couple of quick shots. They don't really show the size of the outside swells, but do o.k. indicating the wind conditions. The two pictures that I'll post were taken of a young sailor named Keven Kan. I believe he's from the Bay area. Anyway, here's the two lone shots for the day.

He's not on the ocean's surface. He's probably 6' over it. |

Why did you take a picture of a kiter? Who's side are you on anyways?

Hey Q-man, I guess you missed my backward loop with a 180. Oh, well......you would've had to have an underwater camera for that one.
It was strangely challenging today. Was it the gusty conditions? Was it the dropping tide causing the swell sets, which came virtually without breaks, to jack up fast? Or could it possibly be due to "being out of windsurf-shape"?
Maybe jpbassking's "nose-riding" could help.

NP: Sometimes such "nose rides" can push one into a back loop or two, depending on overall conditioning, technique, and the obstacle presented by ones pronounced proboscis.

I understand your concern about my allegiance, but you know these guys; they're very pesky. Not only that, but when they see a camera on the beach they start posing.
That said, they were having some fun today, despite the distraction presented by nealpar's underwater "loop dances" with Mr. Whitey.

Took some crappy pics from the sesh today. Wind started out very light, and then it turned on pretty strong! Started on 5.4 and ended up on 4.7 (the orange sail in the pics above). A fun day for sure, and I got to meet nealpar and theQ

No, he was not. Nealpar, theQ, stevenbard, you, your sailing buddy, B.Wilson, and Heim (sp?) were the ones who braved it. Although saying that I "braved" it, might be a bit of a stretch. There were a few guys that sailed at Leo for a while. I heard a rumor that the MB's SWChandler showed up there to chat a bit with the Leo crew. I'm not sure if he got out.
Maybe we'll see you down here again sometime, eh?

I was kiting at North Beach at Leo..... Had the whole place to myself...
Yup it was pretty challenging today.
The sets were pretty dense and they just seemed to sneak up on you.
I could see the windsurfers out at both County and the cove at Leo...
Always a good sign when you windsurfers are out.... means were going to
have a great session.
Happy Christmas to everyone.....
Lets hope it's a windy year!
Cheers
Fred
