If you take the ferry across from the mainland make sure you get the entry form at the border, otherwise be prepared for major hassles when you try to get the ferry back to the mainland: You need a temporary importation permit for you car, which requires the entry form or a visa. The visa involves a trip to an immigration office in la Paz and TWO trips to a bank to pay the numerous fees. The whloe thing took about 4 hours and 200 $!!!, and of course a day's delay in our return.
Also, the ferry is not what youare used to at home: It's mostly for trucking. They load and unload all the trucks first, and jam the cars in the deepest bowels of the boat. Loading and unloading takes hours.... |
