With all due respect to the other wind lovers, the Real Wind boards are what you want at Shermy. The board is made for the Gorge and Sherm is a mini-Gorge. Great jumper, never slides out, sails great overpowered . Trust me, Ive sailed all the other junk.

I can plane jibe well and fast tack okay and have moved to Rio Vista where I realize that I'm not as good as I thought... I was blown off the water (22-28knots) on my board and a 4.2/5.0 sail in july, august and sept... I am looking at the JP FSW 77 or 84, RRW 74 or 82 and RRD FSW 78L and was wondering if people could give me recommendations! |
If you're interested in demoing boards, I do have two of the boards you're looking at: 2008 JP Freestyle Wave 84 and 2008 JP Real World Wave 74. I'm in the Bay Area... don't know if you still live in LA and just come here to sail Rio, or if you're a transplant. Anyway, I also get down to your neck of the woods to visit my family in PV from time to time.
That said, given your weight and the fact that you jibe well and can fast tack, I would recommend staying on the smaller end of the board spectrum if you're planning to keep your 95l. This will best address the control issues your facing with your big board and let you have fun when the wind really picks up to the mid to high 20's. The FSW 77 will be a little bit easier ride when compared to the RRW 74. The FSW's have flatter rockers than the wave boards and more volume in the rails and tail which make them track better and more stable. Wave boards in general are more squirrely and less locked in, which makes them really maneuverable and rewarding when riding swell and waves. The FSW's are still loose enough to be really fun in the swells... just depends whether you like loose or really loose. The FSW have power boxes and the RRW have US-boxes if that's an important consideration for you. The new FSW line is really nice BTW... the boards are about .5cm wider than last year (which were a little narrow IMHO), and the people I've demoed my 84 to have really liked it.
You should be able to ride either 77 or the 74 from 5.0 and down which would be a good compliment to your 95l and good for Rio conditons.
