Airport noise on Stable Road is bad.

If you're beginner - Intermediate, definitely plan on Kanaha as your venue. You'll need a van. And yes, in October we generally do get waves, but not always. This week has been almost flat so far. And, when there are waves, at Kanaha you can sail inside the break at Uppers. A lot of people do this.

For more info and sailing reports, check out www.mauiwindsurfing.net

Thanks for great advice. I only used Berkeley as an example of my newbiness, no comparisson with Maui. If I stay off the Stable Rd. would I still need a car?

It is a really good idea to rent a car. Even if you sail where you sleep, you've got to get your gear there somehow. You will also want a car to get to restaurants, or a grocery store or anywhere else if it's not windy.

The noise is pretty bad, particularly if you bring a non-windsurfer. I will always remember when a guy showed up on an adjacent property on stable rd. for his honeymoon with his new non-windsurfing wife. I often wonder if their marriage lasted the rest of the week.

In my case that would be 4-months pregnant, obviously non-windsurfing, wife. It has to be Kihei/Wailea. Any particular condos/hotels that members would recommend? I'd score some major points (read more windsurfing) if the place is ON a nice swimable beach. Thank you.

If you want a nice swimmable beach, you won't find it in Kihei, at least in north Kihei. The beaches at Village by the Sea and Maui Sunset (where a lot of windsurfers tend to stay) aren't really very nice. They have a seaweed problem and the water isn't very nice. Further south in Kihei you'll find better beaches at Kameole 1, Kam 2, Kam 3 and south. Wailea has some exquisite beaches. If you really want to score points and your budget allows for Wailea, go with one of the resorts there. If you're on a tighter budget, look for one of the condos near Kameole 1, 2 or 3 (the names of those condos are escaping me at the moment - Kameole Sands might be one).

Hope that helps.

Stay at the Maui Kameole. It's right on the southern edge of Kihei, and you can walk to the Wailea beaches.

A nice condo complex that my sister used to manage is Lanai Kai in Kihei.

Hey MOTOP. Stay at Wailea Ulua condos, spend the bucks. The wife walks down to a spectacular beach or pool , overlooking ocean, you buzz up to Kanaha for a quickie , or just a little jaunt over to Kihei launch. Best of all worlds and you can get a decent deal on Elua condos on VRBO.

Boggsy.

I stayed at Tavares Cove and Sugar Cove before and the wife(non -windsurf) was semi OK with it.

agree either Wailea if flush with cash, or maui kamaole or kamaole sands-both across street fom excellent beach and nice grounds etc. Don't forget to go to Cinnamon Roll Fair at Rainbow Mall (Denny's is there) for cinn roll. Owner told me in July that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith had just been there and approved!
