Windsurfing the Game
http://www.windsurfing-the-game.com/index.php
When you can't get out on the water, this game fills the void in your life! The cost is very low and well worth the hours and hours of fun you will have playing it. You can compete in network games with players worldwide. Currently, most of the competetors are French--the devloper is French. We Americans need better representation from the US so join me trying to break some speed records and topping the Euros!
See you on the "water"!
Chris
p.s. The developer expects to have a wave sailing version out for 2008. |

Would it be too much to hope that all the complainers who post messages on iwindsurf would go to this site and have something fun to do when they are not sailing (be gone!) ? |

Hmm...I took the liberty of installing this game. Its kind of fun, for about 10 minutes. I guess if you don't mind graphics that are 10 years behind the times, and unrealistic and arcade-style physics then you could have fun with it.
The demo is all speed sailing, yet somehow you can bust a 25 ft jump off flat water with a 110L board and a 6.5 sail. If there was any kind of wave riding, or real ocean conditions, then I might pay the $20 euro to buy it. Not worth the trouble in my mind. |

Give it a chance. For me, the graphics are good enough: 3D with textures. The graphics may not be the very top of the heap, but at least the games and physics (the important parts) are designed by a windsurfer, e.g. downwind is about the speed of the wind, top speed is a broad reach, courses are fun and some are technical.
Half the fun is configuring fins, boards and sailors. The game has 10 different courses/competitions and many different locations all over the world. You can sail on flat water in Aruba or swells in Maui.
It is a video game so jumps may be a bit "fantastic", but hey video games are fantasies; I'd rather be "on the water" busting a shaka than shooting aliens or mowing a lawn in a fantasy "sim" world!
The independent developer is not making much on the project, but at least he's trying to give us a place to go when we are hunkered down for the winter! And the better he does on this one the better the next one will be.
Waiting for spring,

Damn cool! Thanks for spillin' the beans about this game, Chris. It's not everybody's bag, of course, but what is? |

No, the game is not available for Mac. Maybe WS2008 will be!
