I launched yesterday from the pipes west of the old point - was surprised to see you all out there already! When I came back I had a nice chat with the security guard who told me that the Navy won't be finished 'for a long time yet'. And I shouldn't be there (Really...oh!). Don't see why the path has to be closed, but why would the Navy care....
I'm going to try jumping in off the west sea front & sailing around to 13th to pull out - two cars but a fun downwinder! Going in there is no problem, but pulling out with wind & waves on your head is not fun.
Tomorrow should be great - as long as we're off the bridge before 8pm!

Today when I left, the ramp to east-bound 80 was closed already. So you east bay sailors will have a long, clockwise commute if you want to sail TI.

TI was a raspy enough launch BEFORE the Navy closed the lot. So I'm not going to attempt these 13 Ave sailing (swimming?) adventures.

TI Guys: Hey, forget this year - I am worried that they won't even be done before NEXT summer. I've worked with the Dept of Defense cleanups before and these things can drag on at a snail's pace.. That is unless a "stakeholder" group is banging at the door. Now is the time to start pestering the Navy. They have had plenty of time to clean up radium dials. Time to give us our access back!

Boy, I miss TI!!!!

Why on earth would I want to forget this year??? 13th is not such a bad deal when the wind and tide is right. I expect some great fall sailing this year. I'm not going to wait for the Navy cause if I do, I may not sail TI this year or next.

Most people i know prefer to sail TI on ebb(why? smooth swell, nice ramps, easy to stay up wind...). By the way this's also a good set up for 13St as "Steve" mentioned above, don't waste your fall doing PAJA, (What is PAJA? you can check with teamdawg.org for definition) TI/candlestick are our only resort for the fall. Then, when we started arguing with the navy back in December or november 06 and we told them what they should and should not do to end their work early enough and take in consideration the recreational impact and blah blah blah... they ignored the hell out of us. It's their island they can completely close it if they have to or want to. My friends were telling me then we need to be more aggressive with the navy so they consider a decent launch site for us. I told my friends I know a spot where we can still use TI without having to deal with those Bast***, I guarantee that. And it is working, just show up when TI is reading 20+, the current should be going out (EBBING) and rig what ever sail you thing is good for the condition, with in half an hour you'll be surrounded by 20 guys rigging their 4.7's and heading out with no doubt.
