Carl,

Here is my mental reasoning. Windsurfing , unlike skiing , and biking requires a set-up of conditions. When these conditions set up., I scramble to Crissy, Tomales, Coast , etc, and enjoy the rush. If I was on high alert during the off season, I think I'd go crazy, not to mention the window of opportunity is much smaller, and Im in ski mode.

I guess you are right but winter sailing is easier than that. You don't have to be on high alert because we don't have the same winds. Most of it is storm-driven so you just have to be aware of the incoming storm. No forecasts.

The windsurfing season ends? You must be serious.

In reality, I think some folk's focus and interests change. Some are really just seasonal participants in the sport. I'm a year round guy, but in the Santa Barbara area, it's sometimes a less than consistent scene, unlike the classic summers in the SF Bay area. I think that it makes us a bit more scrappy and pragmatic by nature. When the good times roll down south in the off season, it's some of the best stuff around. Playing the game in the ski resorts isn't quite the same in my mind. Don't get me wrong, I like snow skiing, but the costs are outrageous, and the driving requirements are another thing altogether. Mountain biking isn't even interesting to me. Of course, I'm not concentrating on a rabid downhill scene, as that's only for the young and foolish looking for a disaster to strike.
