There's a possibility that I will be visiting a cousin that lives near Coney Island. I was wondering if I could bring some light wind equipment and sail there.

Coney Island is too crowded. That's why no one goes there any more. Laughing

Yogiism. It must be an interesting place, though, considering the history.

And, of course, "Waquoit Bay is too crouded. That's why I must optain a new weedfin," would be a Swiftism.

Windsurfing in Brooklyn is at Plumb Beach, not Coney Island. The water is more accessible there. It is several miles east of CI and right off the Belt Parkway (the reststop right after the Knapp St. exit.

Chuckles is more interested in the girl watching and photography ! He optimizes and utilizes his options by shooting a windsurfer instead of optaining permission and thereby avoiding a good beating at the very least.

From Kevin Pritchards blog ;

What are they? From my perspective half way around the word, they're interesting. It's always been difficult for artist's to find good subject matter. A professional will choose people (especially if they are paying for the pictures) much more than amateurs. People make the exciting and attractive photo's, though. I tried to capture an incredibly beautiful young girl in a bathing suit at the beach, yesterday. However, she and her family noticed the camera pointed in her direction so I took another photo of a windsurfer behind them. Optaining permission can be a big hassle. It's better, though, than getting punched out by some famous actor or irate mother.

Thanks. It's great to see the I-windsurf staff publish something informative, that isn't a personal attack or insult.

let's not start the blame game. that bollix Bruce goes under about 10,000 different aliases on the web and constantly has negative, conceited answers to forums that aren't any of his business.

Good answer on the Plumb direction. I feel sorry for anyone that regularly rides there.

I used to sail there regularly - it's not that bad in the off-season. In the middle of the summer, it can be gross with the oil slick from the Sheepshead Bay marina and runoff from Jamaica Bay.

Coming from Manhattan, other sites are easier to reach, if not actually closer, but in a SE in the late summer/fall, conditions can be quite good there. Watch the tide, as much of the bay literally get dry at low tide and there is debris, (rocks, clams) on the otherwise sandy/muddy bottom. I recommend to consider wearing booties even though I hate sailing with them.
