Does anyone know if there is a Jet - Ski race being held at Lake Isabella this weekend,August 4th and 5th ? There have been several close calls recently between Jet-Skiis and windsurfers. I was nearly hit by one last weekend.
I read about a race being held either this weekend or the next. Info would be appreciated. Thanks WS

jet skiers up there on big weekends are so unaware of anything going on around them. they should shut down that fork of the lake to motorized watercraft

Yeah, don't we wish!!

The locals there, especially the lake patrol don't like windsurfers. Friend of mine was victim of hit and run by jet skiier. Guy RAN HIM OVER, broke his mast, tore his sail, and drove away saying sorry dude, that was it!! He could have been killed! We reported him to the lake patrol who could not have cared less and even made comments to the effect that windsurfers are trouble cause they never buy their permits, etc.

Have to just assume the assholes don't see you at best, or are aiming for you at worst, and sail defensively on the weekends.

A windsurfer was killed by a jet skier several years ago at Cabrillo Beach. Only then did they separate the two activities.

Years prior to this fatality a women was seriously injured and a plea was made to the authorities to do something, much like what you're hearing now at Lake Isabella. Unfortunately for the deceased, it took a fatality to get anything done. Now the sailing area on the inside of Cabrillo is cordoned off. Somebody had to lose their life to get some buoys put-up. Pretty sad.

You heard the best advice already, WATCH OUT! Don't be the fatality. It's coming sooner or later.

To the guy that got run over; he should have gathered his things and a witness and made his way over to the docks to find the out of control driver. Get his name and info, file a report with the ranger and sue for damages. Sailors have the right of way over motorized craft.

As for the licensing, the authorites don't enforce it. They enforce what they feel like enforcing. All they would have to do is get their asses out of their truck and walk down to the beach and start writing tickets to the windsurfers without stickers. Next thing you know people would start buying registration stickers. Pretty simple fix.

Lake Isabella is free for all for now. When somebody gets killed, all this will change. Too bad they won't make the changes before somebody dies.
