I am thinking about moving (retiring) to the Wilmington area and am wondering about the windsurfing there. I know about the outer banks, but I am looking for something closer to Wilmington.

How is the wind compared to the outer banks? I do a lot formula and don't mind windy rough conditions, but prefer 10 to 20 knot breezes for fun formula sailing.

Short board too in all conditions, but somewhat limited experience in the surf.

Been windsurfing since 1983.

Thanks,

Ken in Dallas

I'll put this out there for ya .

Halfway down the page is some Wilmington area info. We have our days there but nowhere near as frequent as OBX. If you have fun in 10 - 20 knots you should be pretty happy in Wilmington in between the 15-25-35
days.

Thanks for the info, it's good to see that there are some sailors & sites in the area.

I just moved here a year ago and I can say that it is just as good as the north east. I have been using my 6 meter and down all year with my 90 to 112 liter board getting the most use . Check out the pics from the basin at fort fisher that was posted earlier.

The Neuse is a great place to sail and the river is getting cleaner and cleaner. You've got to check it out ! In a roaring 20-25 knts breeze the swells get big and down-winders from Dawson's Creek to Oriental are a blast.
NO Weeds !

Come sail here !
Oriental is a strange little drinking town with a sailing problem.
