Are you involved? When our local windsurfers need a sensor, we contact iW, scout potential sites, justify the need to iW, talk to landowners, find potential power and telephone access, sometimes help iW install hardware, and sometimes perform hands-on maintenance. Or we find a pre-existing sensor (NOAA has many) or persuade a corporation or agency to install one, work with iW and the sensor owner to find out how to feed its data to iW with everyone's concurrence, write the iW sensor location and launch site descriptions, and enjoy the results.
It's the same way one accomplishes anything, such as creating or getting assigned to a job you enjoy, changing a law, moving your career to a windy area, opening new launch sites and improving existing ones: get involved. Think my family got and usually shaped every civilian and military job we had over 40 years, including moving to the Gorge, by chance? Hell, no; you want something badly enough, you start pulling strings and greasing skids.
iW is a few guys and gals running a multinational and multi-continental data gathering, processing, and dissemination system. We can sit back and whine, or we can help them help us. Most eastern Washington and Oregon windsurfing sites and sensors and many in the heart of the Gorge are a direct result of heavy windsurfer involvement.

I was at PI the other day talking to a guy who sails only there and Berkeley. He knows the two people who live in Marina Bay, and he put them in contact with IW personnel to offer their houses as potential sites. This fell on deaf ears. The Houses at Marina Bay sit right on the edge of the bay, with nothing but a bike path between them. They're all 2 story houses. Put a sensor on the roof, send the reports on their internet connection and forget about it. I don't know why we are spending an entire season without a very important sensor, but it's not because we're not involved. I understand they're a few guys and gals, but it's a service we pay for and we shouldn't have to arrange sensor sites for them.

dudes, if you don't think you're getting what you pay for then don't pay for it. you can easily look at all of the information the forcasters are using and come to your own conclusions. they don't have access to any top secret insider data.
actually, during the months that they don't forcast i use nws and the satelite pictures and do pretty well.
if we didn't have iwindsurf where else could we bitch about forcasts? |

That's not the point, we had a sensor, it went away and now we try to get it back, improve it, and help with the process. It's that simple. |

That's not the point, we had a sensor, it went away and now we try to get it back, improve it, and help with the process. It's that simple. |

Andy's origional post and Victor's post were about the FORCAST.
That said,
I'm not sure the logic of nagging about the FORCAST, when the actual complaint is about the broken SENSOR. Children often nag for attention,
look what it gets them,,,, sent to their rooms.

In reality, profanity often turns off the people that would otherwise help you. Isobars Mike is right, WORK to find a solution. (This might require getting up from the computer and contacting the appropriate people though) |

Agree, what happens is that we used to rely on forecast and sensor, now we only have the forecast and some people don't seem to like the them. |

Agree, what happens is that we used to rely on forecast and sensor, now we only have the forecast and some people don't seem to like them. |
