Remember the days before iwindsurf...

Listening to the NOAA forecast on the weather radio and driving for hours looking for wind up and down the coast.

Waking up in dewey tent at 6:30am, running to the truck to listen to Bingen Bart on the radio and then chasing the wind up and down the gorge.

Sharing stories about getting skunked over a couple of beers

Where is has romance gone ?

It's all dialed in now. Check the iwindsurf update at 11:30am, look at a couple of cams, cross check with NOAA, check the swell on Surline.
BOOM. 150 days of sailing.

Where is the fun in that ?
Yeah, Thanks Mike and The iwindsurf crew for taking all the fun out of it.

Not finding good wind for your hobby is frustrating, but just imagine how frustrating it can be to have to forcast wind for a job.

Not getting wind drives me nuts what with me being hopelessly addicted to kitesurfing, but there's no reason to take it out on the guy who has to try to predict the wind.

I'm in the LA area and it is notoriously difficult to predict the wind here.
Sometimes it just comes out of nowhere.

Best advice I can give to you all is to send as much usefull info to the forcasters, especially if there was unpredicted wind and in particular if there was wind where there is no sensor.

Cheers

Fred

why piss and moan about godsey. or other 'forecasters' ? get some experience, know your spot, and you'll know when it's going to blow or it isn't.

I found this while doing some Web searches on some of the technical explanations contained in the forecasts.

Each page has a very basic and easy to understand explanation...with graphics that animate when you roll over them for illustration.

This section was particularly useful in explanations recent conditions:

I used to write a weekend forecast for So. Cal.....emailed it out every weekend to 40 or so sailors. If I predicted average wind of 16 to 18 at Cabrillo, and it only blew 15, people would piss and moan. Now I don't bother. After struggling for a few years to understand So. Cal., Mike does a pretty damn good job. And he keeps learning. If he misses part of the wind pattern, and has a few bad forecasts, I send him a note and he always adapts--as well as sending me back a nice note. (His proteges, who do the weekday forecasts, still need a little tutelage).

Anyway...think back to when Call of the Wind and iWindsurf first started and compare it to now. Totally changed my life.

How about yours?

Cool
