New safety areas have just gone into place, set up by the Port of Hood River around the new 40 acres of land near the Event Site (5/26/07). I spoke with the port director yesterday and he noted that warnings will be issued for the first few weeks, then citations will ensue. Safety is the only concern here, and areas are clearly marked with big red and yellow buoys.

Please spread the word, and take a second to look at this map of the delta that shows the areas and their designated uses:

Speaking of safety, anyone have details on the kite accident today at the spit? Not a good way to start the season.

Bruce P. is doing a great job of respecting the slow zone.
Yesterday I watched him schlog out from the Event Site sunk up to his thighs/waist (well below the 5mph limit and a great display of skill and balance). It was only after he reached the edge of the safety zone that he hit the wind line and took off like a bullet.
