i know its a bit of luck, but if you had your choice: May or June
we're trying to plan for next year, and would choose a chance for swell over more wind.....

I am under te impression that later (July or August) has less of a chance for a big swell? thanks

You may get lucky with a super clean south swell.

Pretty small right now, just watch what is coming in and then time it by that.

May is a better bet, but they don't call it May/June gloom for no reason.

San Carlos is a wave spot. If there's no swell then I'd opt for the central coast of CA. Fog on the coast means wind on the lakes - Lake Lopez.

May/June can be foggy for days, even weeks - dress warm. But if there's a swell you can still surf.

The key is the swell. It can be FLAT for weeks. Watch stormsurf.com or wetsand.com. If its not going to be at least head high during your stay, why go all the way to SC?? You CAN get skunked at SC during prime time, and you can avoid this by simply reading the reports before you go.

If everything comes together, you'll have a very memorable trip!!! Good Luck...

I would go in May. If there's no south swell there is a little better chance of a west swell than in June. Also less fog in May, usually.

I've been there in June and had mast high surf and 4.0-4.5 sails. Last year in April we had 2-3 ft waves with 5.0 sails. All good. It depends on mother nature, so check first. Good luck!
