The world has definitely changed as windsurfing/kiting shops can't be supported enough to exist here. But that works to the benefit as the spots are very uncrowded.

When it happens here it is 1st class. Swells are massive and lot's of fun.

Good luck all.

The Hingham guys name is Barry, he closed up his bike, windsurf, random crap store, and is now selling real estate, go figure, I think hes still a hifly dealer technically, he got me into the sport. But its true, not enough of a market for a shop there.

It seems that Hifly doesn't have much presence any more in the States. I tried to get some info as I, too, started with them and still have an old board which I bought at CanAm, but the search came up rather empty. Chinook took over their representation as I remember. I've managed to keep all the hardware and accessories on my Hi-fly intact which has worked tremendously in my favor as replacements now are impossible to find. You wouldn't know Barry's contact info, would you? He may still have something. The Nantasket shop, I believe, was mainly a surf shop. I would think that Hingham Bay would be good for kiters as it's rather shallow, isn't it?

Barry is a tough man to find, try the hifly us website http://www.hifly.com/int2007/index.php
hingham pretty much sucks for windsports, no wind. it would be too shifty for kiteboarding I would imagine.

Actually, I've talked to a couple of the guys at Chinook in the off season about Hi Fly parts. They say they have them, but I don't need them so I left it at that. As you can see, they don't offer prices or any way to order from that website. They don't make it easy to access old parts, if they do have them. I was just wondering if there were any in Ma. other than the rare few to be found in the back room of Wilderness House. Which brings up the only remaining vendor of windsurfing equipment in Boston. Yesterday, I dropped by Wildernness House to see how their wind dept. was doing. It was kind of disappointing. The hadn't changed the set-up and still had most of the floor space filled with Snowboards. The guy that now sells the summer stuff was throwing a skewed sales pitch at someone. He stated that Windsurfing was harder to learn than kiting which I really don't think is true at all. Not only that, someone who is selling both kinds of equipment shouldn't be stating that, even if they think that it is true. They have quite a few harnesses on display, but there were no aftermarket fins to be found. From what I can gather from this visit and those I made last year, they are concentrating on selling kiting accessories and >>family<< beginner packages for windsurfing for big bucks. I went to the demo they had down at the boathouse last year. It seems that they are trying to make this their way of clearing the floor, but I seriously don't think that they have sold the Prodigy they have there.
