Thanks to a community in action, a note from the victim;
"Major thanks be to the windsurfing community, and in this case very
especially to Chris Campbell, Team Coyote, Phillip Newmarch, Richard Shirley
and IWindsurf.
Sailing equipment stolen in September was listed as stolen in Iwindsurf .
Six months later when a suspicious sailboard ad appeared on Ebay, Chris
Campbell, Mo Gunn of Team Coyote and Phillip Newmarch did some research and
tracked me down with the news and suggestions as to how to best apprehend
the guy. Well the Santa Cruz Police Department did the job using a search
warrant and information from Ebay. The case has now been referred to the
District Attorney's offiice, though the seller was apparently very amateur.
Among other things he had tried to remove the serial number after showing it
right in the Ebay ad picture. Be sure to do something tricky and safeguard
your car from theft....in talking to others I find most of us can get a
little complacent!
Again, a hearty thanks again to you all for the trouble you took to help."
