| Since Im thinking about making an adventure out of a trip to Hawaii, I wanted some feedback. Im not looking for information regarding the windsurfing, though. I was just wondering if anyone has ever flown to Honolulu without any prior arrangements regarding lodging and then explored the islands in the winter. Is it hard to find accomodations without reservations? How easy is it to make friends on the beaches? Can you sleep out anywhere? |

| Winter is high season in Hawaii. The Canadians book it up early, so you may want reservations. As for sleeping on the beach in Honolulu, probably as easy as sleeping on the beach in any big city, im sure you can find some late night friends to help you with your finances. :>) |

| Unless you are planning to hang out with the homeless, which I dont suggest, then my recommendation would be to have a plan where to stay. |

Brucie, perhaps you should ask beachdoser about sleeping on the beach. (But be careful -- he tends to expand on the truth.)
Anyway, when I was young, friends and I tried sleeping on the beach on the Vineyard and were promptly evicted by the cops. So we--in desperation, you understand--camped out in the town cemetery. Morbid thought, but actually very quiet and peaceful (the residents only moaned a little) and completely deserted.
We made sure to not disturb anything and left no sign of our occupation. We camped in the same spot another 15-20 times without problems.
We used to regularly visit the Moon Cusser restaurant. Remember it? |

Yeah, sort of like the Germans in Terifa during Easter. Book early and enjoy the time out there with those that beat you to the punch
Recommend island jumping with the cheap flights in Hawaii.
Maui wind is not the best in the winter, but the wave action is better. |

Brucie, if its just you sleeping out, youll probably do fine. Youre a quiet, well behaved, respectable 57 y/o geezer of high moral standing.
But keep in mind that where you go, also goes comic charlie, tycoonguy, sinbad, gaastrageezer, swiftsurfer, quickrig, beachdoser, oldsalt, seamanfirstclass, bigwebsailor, robswift, mistersmith, bighalsey, prljack, skimmer, skirtchaser, swiftsailor, and probably a few more. And if psychokiter gets in the mix, you got real trouble cause hes a fruitcake.
Some advice from a friend: Think twice about your plan with that rowdy bunch. Next thing you know, theyll be talking to themselves. Or worse yet, posting forum messages and responding to themselves. |
