Like Im theonly guy here with opinions . . .

New Mexico the greatest WSing spot? I dont think so. But it and CA are definitely different worlds.

And there IS no greatest WSing spot; they all have a long list of pros and cons.

I dont want to live in Iraq, or NYC, or even where I grew up, either, but jealousy is about as far from my list of reasons as the price of iPods in France.

Thats MY opinion, anyway. Wink

Another great thing about California windsurfing is the great folks like Peter of the SFBA who selflessly donate so much of their time to preserve and expand access and launch sites. I have only lived in the Bay Area for 10 years but have been really impressed by how many people care about others first.

Mike,

There are so many launch sites around the bay that work in a variety of wind conditions, you never need to 4 wheel anywhere. Besides, I like company on the water - within limits. Just the other day I found a great new site to sail on a strong SE storm wind.

I understand the draw to free access to any waterfront, but thats just not an option around here. Too built up. Besides, too much of that activity tends to be damaging to the shore and surrounding areas. For that I go to Baja.

Around here, Im just thankful that I can sail 4.0 to 5.5 conditions, 150 days a year, 12 months a year, and other than paying 4 bucks to launch inside the park at Sherman Island, its basically a free sport.

Oh, I forgot about the bridge tolls.

Or $35 for a yearly pass at Sherman Island.

If I get to the delta 9 times in a season Im lucky. Its basically a weekend trip for me. Wish I could sail there more, but with Larkspur 20 minutes away, Berkeley and P.I. 35 minutes, 3rd Ave 25 minutes on a day when I work in Freemont, and T.I. 40 minutes away no matter where Im at, Sherman Island becomes more of a getaway weekend for me.

based on some peoples gear out there, they may qualify for windsurfing stamps or the earned windsurfing credit.
