Ill try and make my question/situation brief yet comprehensive.
I had 2 soft spots on my deck with cracks in them that would have salt crystalize on when i finished windsurfing for the day. So i figured I would repair these spots knowing that they were leaking a bit of water into my board.
This is an AHD Type F 85
To repair it I did what I usually do to repair a crack: dig out the crack (I use a circular disk on a drill to make a clean narrow grove) and fill it with epoxy. Since these sections were big (an inch wide by 3 inches long) I figured I would just cut around the section and remove the skin of the deck and replace with fiberglass.
Now I have 2 really nice intact pieces of deck and 2 holes in my deck with the foam underneith still perfectly intact.
the question is:
Should I just lay down fiberglass and create a new deck, or should I lay some fiberglass down and put the 2 cut out sections of deck on top of it?
Are there any cons to placing the 2 cut outs back on the deck now that they are bonded to the board again? Or should I just lay down fiberglass? |

Micro-ballons availible at any hobby shop will make a good filler and mix with the glass. |

I third the boardlady site. But to your question. I would skip reusing the old stuff and use filler (microballoons and/or cabosil) and glass and carbon if necessary. If you really want to reuse the old, it should be cleaned of old material still stuck to it before reusing...and possibly a layer of glass on top sanded painted and re-gripped if needed. |
