So the debate rages on over Carbon vs. Alum. Being s designer I can tell you you will never have a probelm with alu.

On the other thand I have sailed Fiberspar carbons for over 10 years on the same two. I finally broke one, but it was the plastic cleat that broke and not the extension itself. Go figure....

So now what I am concerned about the the alum. vs. the carbon is bend and flex?

Alum.....Doesnt bend if it does its done!

Carbon...dont know the properties and will it effect the sails performance.

I sail a 9.8 and 12.0 windwing formulas BTW.

So I have to get a new Ext. any suggestions?

Thanks
Scott

Ive sailed noticeably bent alu booms for a season, and I prefer to sail overpowered relative to most Gorge B&J sailors. It all depends on where and how theyre bent.

With sails over 5-6 meters (some people say 4 meters), carbon boom stiffness significantly aids peformance.

Actually I was reffering to a carbon or Aluminum mast extension.

But thanks for the comments

Do you mean the twistlock broke? This happens all the time with Fiberspars and they sell a twistlock kit thats pretty cheap to do an easy fix.
