I am going to make several trips north to the bay area. What forecast am I looking for to maximize my trip?
NW outer waters? or what. |

Steven,
Do you mean SF Bay? (Tampa bay is also called the bay area).
If its SF, it also depends where around the bay you will be sailing?? Also what time of year?? The wind can vary greatly depending on where the fog is and how hot the central valley is. Also in the spring, dry weather fronts can greatly enhance the wind at some locations. NW on the coast is usually good for most but not for all sites. Please answer the above questions, the bay is a big place with vastly different conditions at different times. Also what skill level are you??, some sites can get very windy, choppy and lots of tide current to get you into trouble. Some sites are much better and safer for intermediates.
If youre mobile you can sail almost every day from now thru Sept, just watch the pager in the early afternoon. In really basic general terms, the more fog in the bay, the more east you want to be. |

That was mean. Forecasting the weather has to be about as easy as picking the winning lottery numbers. |

LOCAL FORCASTING NEEDS TO BE DONE BY A LOCAL FORCASTER,NOT SOME GUY 850 MILES AWAY WHO IS MORE INTERISTED IN DOING ON-SIGHTS FROM THE HATCH.IF YOU DOUNT LIVE HERE DONT FORCAST HERE. HE DOES GREAT GORGE FORCASTING,BUT HAS LOST TOUCH WITH THE SIGHTS IN THE BAY.SOME TIMES TO DO A GOOD FORCAST YOU HAVE TO GO OUT AND STAND IN THE RAIN |
