Hi Gang,
At this point, you are probably wondering about the thick haze every morning. It barely has the typical brownish color of wildfire smoke nor does it have the smell of smoke. And unlike smoke, it largely burns back each afternoon.
Gorge forecaster Matt Souders have done a blog to explain the causes of this haze.

I'm very curious about this as the air quality has not been too bad lately, according to https://oraqi.deq.state.or.us/home/map , Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

That is the point of my graphic and the upcoming blog where it says the haze is a: "Combo of low monsoonal haze and high smoke."
The air quality is a measure of the 8 variables shown in the graphic below.
The low-level milky haze we have been seeing recently is monsoonal moisture that was swept out way from the Pacific west of Baja and the Sea of Cortez. Since it is just water vapor it is not considered a pollutant. And the smoke from the California Dixie fire is way aloft so it is not being detected by the surface sensors. Hence the relatively high air quality shown in your link.
So while all the haze is not aesthetically pleasing and has been weakening the pressure gradient a bit and upping the humidity it does not impact health.
Mike
