Hi there!
Can anyone provide recommendations (based on recent experience within the past two years) for shipping a wave board and/or accessories?
United Airlines no longer allows any items with a combined length, width, and depth that'sgreater than 115" -- which doesn't come close to accommodating my 8'10" board. (It's highly unlikely that I'll be windsurfing in Florida, and I doubt that I could sell it -- so that's why I want to ship it back home to San Francisco).
uShip? UPS? DHL?
Thanks for your help!

Amtrak cheapest, just under a c note, station to station
Carriers like to charge around 140, coast to coast, not necessarily to a residential door. |

Amtrak is the cheapest, but you absolutely MUST have the recipient unpack the board at the station in front of an Amtrak employee to insure it hasn't been damaged. Amtrak absolutely DESTROYED a board I sent from KC to Champaign/Urbana, IL last July. The buyer didn't unpack it at the station and we were not able to get them to compensate him. (He had a local guy repair it).
It cost me $90 another time, to have a board shipped from Hood River to KC, and that worked out great. _________________ Kansas City |

You have a issue. It’s big
Truck freight may be one of the only way to ship this. You would take it to a terminal, be trucked across, and cheapest would be pick up from the depot in SFO.
What wave board is 269.24 cm long?

I've been busy trying to get a board I purchased from Savannah shipped to Corpus Christi. Sorry to say, Amtrak is no longer an option for shipping a board if you are located from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic Ocean. Amtrak personell claim they have changed the size of the freight holds and they are no longer accepting items with dimensions larger that 36"x36"x36", Supposedly Amtrak is still accepting boards if you are in New Orleans or west of there except for the Amtrak train between San Diego and San Luis Obispo.
I also tried FedEx. FedEx will ship it as freight at a cost of $405 from Savannah to Corpus Christi. LTL Freighters will ship it but only if it is fully protected by a wooden crate plus a shipping cost of $250.
It's been a frustrating day. |

I contacted Pilot late this afternoon but haven't heard back from them. Will post results when I hear back from them. .....24 hrs later, I still have not heard from Pilot.
I did find a board in San Francisco I might be interested in, so I called Amtrak and they are willing to transport it to San Antonio. The Amtrak rep said they would put it on the train to LA and when it got there, it would be switched to the train headed for San Antonio and New Orleans. Cost would be about $85

Take the board on the plane with you. I’ve traveled with boards to and from Maui twice in the past year. Tell them it’s windsurfing stuff which is allowed. No one measures anything, but make sure it’s less than 50 lbs. |

The reference to a United May be freight, not flying with baggage, so he’s not flying to SFO.
I haven’t encountered any airline that’s friendly anymore, South West is better than most.
My wife has more years as a Airline employee than you are old. _________________ K4 fins
