Obviously, we in this forum disagree widely on the degree and speed of AGW, especially when we add another “A” for Alarmism. But SURELY no one here believes the absolute and dangerous nonsense these brainwashed children are protesting worldwide. Every one of you who has kids in school, pays taxes to support said schools, and/or has a voice or keyboard should demand that teachers feed kids SOME modicum of truth and balance on the issue. Their teachers (aided by the professional activists behind some or much of the protesting) are scaring the crap out of YOUR kids by telling them they are going to die in a few years if we don’t do the impossible (transform the climate) yesterday (literally, according to AOC) with what may as well be an infinite amount of money (as if even THAT is possible or desirable).

I have to really bite my tongue whenever I see “Tom” in the gym. He constantly cites his physics PhD, his 40 years of studying the climate as a hobby, and those completely fictional “97% of scientists” we keep hearing about to “prove” that the world WILL cross the irreversible tipping point by about Monday and rapidly become uninhabitable within a year or two.

That was five years ago.

I just say, “Hi, Tom” and move on.

Too bad we can’t afford to just say “Hi, kids” and move on, but that just shoves the world’s head waist deep into a $75 Trillion wealth redistribution sandpile and leaves our kids wetting their pants and shaking over an irrational fear. How eager would schools would be to give kids time off to protest lying teachers?

The way I see it we need the over reactionary "Toms" & AOC's to balance against the denier "Trumps" who want to increase the amount of CO2 we pump into the atmosphere. I guess if I was as plump as Trump I wouldn't believe in walking or bike riding either but that is beside the point. I'm hoping that between the over reactionaries & the deniers common sense can prevail & we can reach an attainable plan.

Yet another huge storm in Texas. Oh, look over there at the latest Trump tweet. Pay no attention to the scientists—or the kids who will pay for the damage of delay.

250 different events, made worse by climate change. Total cost about $1.7 trillion. https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/billions/events.pdf

I just hate the notion of all those kids, who lack the personal perspective of their own historical context, now thinking that the world may not last through their own lifetime.
I find it criminal, even a form of child abuse thru education. And they think that we, the most advanced country in the world when it comes to protecting our environment, are the guilty ones.
Pawns, nothing but innocent pawns.

NW30, in the 60's when we were considered young folks, did you eagerly support the Viet Nam War and all the nonsense about the Domino Theory? The US Government did, but was that the right path?

I find it criminal that Republicans, and all their toadies, repeat the lies of the oil industry. While subsidizing massive damage to the whole world.

Apples and golf balls, a far off war isn't as scary to the young as the end of the earth as we know it, w/in their lifetime.

You might want to think about the fact that over 58 thousand young men died in Viet Nam. Was that really necessary or wise?
