Sunday it was nuking when I drove up chart said it should
go through the roof . Rigged a 4.7 and it immediately dropped
to almost nothing. Rigged a 5.7 and stayed on that all afternoon
had to work for it at the beginning but it came up mid afternoon.
Weeds are apparent on the surface now.
Monday almost the same experience but it was better most of the
day. Started out slow on 5.6 to almost overpowered by 4pm.
Water Level better on Monday.
Looks like that is it for the foreseeable future if the charts are right.

Looked at the 3km pro reports they said it should go.
Got there around 1pm around 10 or 15 put up the 5.6
and went hunting for a puff. Had to work for it till about
4:30 and it went to 4.7 in about 10 minutes .
Nice runs on the 4.7 through nearly flat surface conditions
due to weeds.
Weed fin needed for sure now .

Pulled out my 4.2 today.(That usually only comes out
a couple times a year)
I weight 225 so most people would be on
a 3.5 . It was way windy when I arrived around 12:45
Nicely powered on the 4.2 for about and hour.
Then went to a 5.3 then back to the 4.2
Weed fins needed now .
Heavy Mist or even Rain between 101 and Watsonville
and from Watsonvile to Santa Cruz on the way back.
Full wipers on not Intermittents so it may do it again tomorrow.
4 out on the North Side 2 out on the South side.

Speculation run based on 3km pro reports
July 26th arrived around 1pm
Temp 98 and it looks like 5.0 to 6.0
put up 5.6 had to search for it at first then it got
pretty good to the point I was thinking about going down a
size around 3:45.
One other arrived around 3 pm.
There are definitely weeds now and the water level was toward
the low average.
Had to drink a lot of water I need a camelback.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the sail inspections.

How are the weeds?

Weeds
Not bad at the 222 to 223 level.
at 221 to 222 the patches hit the surface
vary s from slick spots to green any lower and thicker.
I have sailed in some pretty thick stuff before
and its nowhere near that.
Yesterday no green patch's on the surface
just slick spots but the water was pretty high
and by the end of the day it was showing more
in the cove.
I don't think they have sprayed yet.
There are a certain number of Vogon's at
the gate.
Yeah I know they are doing there job.

Hello,
I am planning to try O'neill forebay today.
Where do windsurfs launch ?
How do you check the water level ?
What is the weed situation right now ?
Are Thrusters ok for weed?
Thanks

The water level is at http://cdec.water.ca.gov/dynamicapp/QueryF?s=ONF

It's pretty high- over 222 today. You can launch at the San Luis Creek side (west side of the lake)- it's the first right turn down a dirt road after you enter. Or, you can launch on the Medeiros (east) side, which is a long drive down some dirt roads to the launch from the other entrance. Google maps can get you to both entrances. The weeds are usually pretty filled in by mid August. So, expect them to be right below the surface with the water at 222. A tri fin would probably catch a bunch of them and start to be pretty annoying. You'll do better avoiding the weeds launching from the Medeiros side. Or, a board with a pretty swept back single wave fin will probably work on the SL Creek side with the water pretty filled up. I usually sail San Luis a couple of times a month when I get tired of fog and no wind on the coast; so, I have two older boards that I keep just because they fit my weed fins.

I'm also probably heading out there today if they wind holds up, and have a few old US box weed fins that I could loan you if you have a pretty long fin box
