Gurgletrousers, I think it may be the ageing of the rotator cuffs of the shoulder. It seems with age they deteriorate to where it is painful to use the shoulders. I think that is a likely cause of the drift away by the no longer young spring chickens.
I am glad that you do not seem to be experiencing such deterioration.

You THINK?
Look at your DAD, or Gramps!
Are they still playing pickup basketball or surfing shortboards?

I wouldn't go as far to say the Blast is "narrow", it's just less wide. But I much prefer it to a RRD Firemove and it's surprising how quick it planes up. It's just cool that Fanatic did something different that works.
To give and 'old' vs 'new' comparison my previous free ride board was an RRD spitfire which was a "go-to" hard-core slalom board from a number of years ago. Same lake, same fin, same rig, the max speed I could get out of that was 29mph. The Blast has been doing over 32mph and I was using a Ezzy Cheetah which is not the most speed focused sail. UK Windsurf magazine did the same type of comparison taking the "best of the old" comparing to new boards and found new gear stomped all over the old.

Be careful what you say, I'm 62 and still throwing down the odd cheese roll
Just don't call me Gramps and I'll die before you get me on a longboard

Never having had much of a voice, I'm now thinking about trying singing
post session, on your suggestion. The beach crowd may run with bleeding ears. we'll see.

I really can't see why such no longer appeals to those who simply drift away. It did once, so what has so changed for them?? |

But on a wider point - Much like the 7 ages of man, there are ages (changing priorities) in the windsurfing game, for those with excess of 35 years of going hammer and tongs at it.From what I observe few last such a time span without a change of direction. Some just fade away and move on; some develop nasty habits such as kiting, foiling, and just talking a good day in the car park; some catch the cycling bug (me too) which they carelessly allow to gradually take precedence, and only appear at the beach once in a blue moon. (Always with excuses.)
For those of us who do stay the course, and will continue to do so, radical can no longer be a valid objective. We peaked a long time ago. We are no longer able to 'progress' if that in fact has any obvious purpose) so we settle for continuity, and SATISFACTION, which would involve a 'normal decent' session, with many smiles, and optional singing.

Ok, the sessions are shorter. They become more significant, meaningful, and dwell on being in touch with rig and water, the spiritual side.
I luv your post.

I had fun sailing the Fanatic Stubby Freewave 105 L with a 6.9 Volt yesterday. The bouncy nature that some people don’t like makes for a fun and lively ride in tame conditions.

Would you say it has more pop for jumping etc? Admittedly these compact boards are appealing for those of us without a van.
All I need now is a 110-115L with a foil box and I'd have all my light wind needs covered.

The Fanatic Stubby FW has better pop than the old freewave, but not as good as the Skate.
