I would not count on being able to launch from the tip at Trixies, especially since they rebuilt the park. Its possible that they may not even open the gate tomorrow.

Laurel is good because the wind is right on the beach on N/NE whereas Trixies has a wind shadow and you heve to sail upwind out of Cedar Creek a hundred or so yards. The down side is that you are totally exposed at Laurel and if it’s gusting to 50, rigging or even just walking around is going to be tough and your car will be totally hammered with salt spray because you will be parked 25 feet from the bay. If you’re half decent at sailing upwind, the protection offered by Trixies makes it a better launch in these conditions IMO.

Looking like a healthy blast of West wind forecast for Saturday, Nov 3rd. Will likely try to get out in the afternoon at Lavallette for a bay side session as long as air temps stay within reason.

Rockin’ day on the bay. Sails in the 4.x range were the call with solid gusts touching 40 mph, reasonably comfortable mid-50’s air temps and plenty of sunshine. About a dozen or so wind-enthusiasts at Lavallette with a fairly even split between windsurfers and kiters. Fun stuff. Hopefully others got a piece of this little November gem.

Hammonasset beach saw winds average in the mid 30's with gusts in the high 40's! About as windy as I have seen it there in a west wind. Crazy rough conditions! About a half dozen windsurfers and a few kites.

Looking like another decent blast of W/NW wind tomorrow (Saturday, Nov 10th). Will likely try to catch a few hours in the late morning/early afternoon at Lavallette as long as air temps aren't too bad.

Quite fun at Lavallette this past Saturday. Haven't sailed there in a few years. Forgot how nice it is in west wind once out in the middle of the bay.

Agreed. Almost a repeat performance of the prior Saturday minus about 10 degrees but with what seemed like a steadier breeze with gusts still nearing the 40 MPH range and lots of sun. Fun stuff.

Looking at a possible session Tuesday, Jan 1st. Temps are forecast to be moderate (high mid 50’s), West wind averaging 20’s with higher gusts. Most likely Lavallette bayside.

Anyone sailing Sandy Hook tomorrow (Tues, Jan 1, 2019)? If wind is SW, is it better to sail further north on the Hook (for example, near Horseshoe Cove) rather than by Lot C, to get better fetch? Would ocean sailing be a possibility, possibly side-off?

Hi Robert,

Didn't see your post until today (1/2/19). Yes - when wind is SW to West, Horseshoe Cove is much better. Yesterday, 4 of us sailed Lot C, the wind eventually shifted to NW and filled back in real nice around 1:30 till about 3:00. Ocean side is usually best with south/southeast winds or north/northeast. I've seen it blow southwest which is side off but never sailed it since it looked a little too off shore and getting back in might be difficult. Anyway, there is usually someone kiting or sailing in Lot C through the winter as long as temps are reasonable and there is no ice.
