On the rare occasion I sailed at Candestick when I worked in Calif,
I was overpowered and being swept out, swimming and trying to waterstart , had taken my strength, I got near a pier and fisherman there saw my struggle.
They threw me a rope , pulled me in.

This gesture, act of morality is imbedded in me.

So odd, one was black, one probably Mexican, and one oriental.

I have seen acts in Hatteras where fisherman get upset with us.
Rather like road rage. Not good for anyone.

Beagle buddy, which beach are you sailing off of ?

It says "Maui Day 2" but neither shot looks like Maui to me.

Sometimes there is a bit of conflict between fishermen and water-sports people on Maui. Fishing is pretty ingrained into the local culture so it is done a lot. If guys are fishing at the launch I just move down the beach a bit. Not really that big of a thing really, but it makes some sailors angry.

I got into it once this summer with some fishermen - trying to pinch past them at uppers as the wind died. I definitely stayed out of their way, but another unfortunate sailer did not. At any rate their wrath was directed at both of us - guilt by association. I worked it out with them and all was cool afterwards. They did not understand a thing about my explanations, and I don't expect them to understand. Best to spot them as you launch and if you come in to shore look for new arrivals. You could go for a hero gybe where you thought there was nobody only to end up entangled. When they are present, I usually only come to shore when launching or quitting.

You get any of those waves last week Scott? I had a few good days.

Steve

Hey Steve,
Yes, got some of the N swell, both surfing and windsurfing. S side has been pumping too. I love this time of year when there are both N and S swells hitting.
