Still 12th Street.
Currents?
Similar to SI, tho maybe not as strong (my recollection). If you get flooded, head for the 9th Street boat ramp.
The pros and cons etc..
Pros: Nice grassy rigging area, 20 minutes from my old workplace in Concord - even at commute time (20 years ago.)
Cons: Winds lighter than most spots (I usually used a 6.0 for my 145 lbs) Season pretty much over by July.
I see the kiters use 12th st.
So do the (few) windsurfers. Beach start is a PITA (bit of a wind shadow).
Dillon point?
Windier if you can sail up that way. There is a parking lot in the State Park, but you would have to rig then carry your gear to the Point and launch off the rocks.
I stopped by 12th St a few weeks ago. Saw my old friend Joe Miller, who switched to kites in the 90's, plus a bunch of young, friendly kiters and one windsurfer who looked to be on a 6.5 or so. |
