No way to take a downwinder for longer than a half mile here so I'll take your word for it. I live in the land of flat side-shore and ground pounding on-shore breaks so the swell comment also doesn't ring a bell.
But it DOES sound like an interesting ride if one had such conditions.

I live in the land of 10-20 mile downwinders, if one chooses to take them. For convenience and more control over conditions, I prefer to limit them to a mile or two, followed by a quick return upwind and a repeat. The longer ones I reserve for the Maryhill/Wall/Dam corridor, when and where the current will take me home if the wind quits.

Mannnnn ... yer komplikating things! You're not the first source to love the Fanatic Stubby in my kind of conditions. I'll have to add it to my short list.

Iso, I'll be in the Gorge next week w/ the FreeWave STB 85 if you are sailing and want to give it a spin.

Will have some other 2017 board with me too Very Happy

The Gorge Surf shop has demos in both the Fanatic FW Stubby and Wave Stubby.

I will be in touch regarding the Fanatic Stubbies; both sound like excellent candidates. Before I bother with the drives and tie up demo resources, I need to test myself more to see if there's any point ... if I can sail long enough and hard enough to make any judgements and even consider buying a board this year. My doctors all say not only no but HELL no, that I will most certainly hit a brick wall within a month or two, that I'm running over quicksand on fumes.

What I DO know is that the first big, wide, floaty, early planing wave board I tried definitely did conserve energy and thus stretch out my most recent session. That's promising.

Thanks for the offer. If we run into each other, I'll certainly check them out. But since my primary interest now is much bigger boards, it's not worth too much effort on either of our parts. Quite often shapes change significantly above the 85-90L threshold, morphing towards greater speed and less maneuverability.

I have a 105 too, but it may or may not make the trip. Too early to tell right now Very Happy

Keep me posted. That's right in my target range, but don't even consider bringing it just for me ... far too many variables right now.
