Buy the right stuff the first time and you might actually save money in the long run. I'm an Ezzy guy. Ezzy rdm masts last for a very long time and work Perfect in his sails. Will the OP notice the difference now? Not likely. He seems very dedicated to the sport and is going to become a good windsurfer.
Might be in a year or it might be a bit more. That is when it makes a difference. One Ezzy 430 masts rigs the 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 Cheetah or Lion.
The 460 rigs the 7.0, 7.5, and the 8.0. I don't think buying used masts or booms is a good investment. Boards and sails, why not. That said the durability of the rdm masts make it a better idea if you need to buy used. Windance board shop has great deals on Ezzy masts new and used. And they give a fair assessment of their condition. I picked up a near new mast for a friend last year for 250 bucks....just saying...Done

Sorry to disappoint you beaglebuddy, I have no special business relationship with Sailworks. I'm not a dealer, and I'm not sponsored in any way. I don't even get special discounts on the things that I might buy. That said, I have bought a couple of their sails, a mast, and a fin over time. Also, I have had a number of sails repaired over the last 12 years. They are good folks, and they make some really great sails. I hope you don't think that it's somehow wrong to share my stoke about Sailworks and the products they make.

Nor do I. But hey, Sailworks, if you are listening, I'll be more than happy to plug your gear everywhere I go if you want to through a free sail or two my way. Laughing

I'm a fan of Sailworks. My quiver is entirely Sailworks now. Revos for high wind. Retros for moderate and Freeride. I used to be a North Sails fan but Sailworks converted me.

Northwave guys tend to be hard to get off their sails too.
