The nipple on the main bladder is slowly but surely getting sucked sideways into the bladder sleeve- everytime I inflate it, it gets pulled in so when its near full expansion, I have to pull like crap to hold it out. The cap has almost ripped off.
Any suggestions? |

yes, this is the dreaded twisted bladder problem.
it is caused mainly by pumping at an angle and pushing down.
to fix this, unfortunately you have to take out the bladder and reinsert it. here is how:
1). open the leading edge bladder tips (velcro w/ sleeve) and pull out the ends of the bladder.
2). take your kite lines and unravel about 20 ft.
attach one kite line to the end of the bladder (and the same on the other). pull it snug but not enough to hurt the bladder
3). go the the middle of the leading edge and find the velco access slit, and pull it open
4). push the inflation valve into the casing, and start to pull out the bladder from the access slit. You will need someone to hold the end of the kite to pull out the bladder.
5). pull out the bladder completely, and then get some baby powder (talc) and sprinkle it all over the bladder (putting it a plastic bag and shaking it in the powder works good too).
6). now fold the bladder up neatly, on its seam, near the access slit (two piles for each side)
7). now you are ready to reinsert the bladder. have your helper pull one end, as you feed the bladder carefully into the slit. You have to make sure the valve will line up where the valve hole is in the casing, so feed that seam in to the front of the leading edge. Make sure you dont twist the bladder as you insert it. stop pulling the string when the bladder tip comes out.
do the same for the other side.
9). now, push the remaining bladder into the slit, and feel around for the valve. you should be able to pull it out with your finger.
10). now, pump up the bladder just a little and let the bladder situate itself. do this gradually and get a bit more air in each time. deflate.
11. put the velcro tips back together on each end and pull the valve all the way through.
12. now pump it up completely, and watch for twists in the bladder. if it looks twisted on either side, then you will have to repeat the bladder removal for that side (only)
if no twists you are done!
to prevent the twisting in the future, you must hold the valve as you pump and keep it straight and dont push on it as you pump.
hope this helps. |
