Found this shot today...1980something, Oneill Forebay. 9"1" Seatrend, fifty square foot Windwing (no sq meters for them!) , gray Ampro mast and a seat harness with some kind of elastic spreader bar. Predator fin I'm sure.
Windoggies rippin!

Cool shot of Lopez... long board racing was a blast. We should bring it back. Can you say Kona?

For those of you still trying to "unsee" Bert's post STOP! DO NOT SCROLL UP! I offer this vintage ad. It even has a windsurf board.

How about some quality out-of-the-box board designs from our friends down under during the very early 80's.

My Bic E-Rock was electric green but I could sail it today and be happy.
I wanted a Mistral Screamer but couldn't afford the price bump from $800 to north of $1200. See board prices have actually come down! (justify justify justify)

One design racing is a lot of fun. I participated in a couple of Kona one-design races the last time they did a tour of the west coast with their "fleet". One-design certainly levels the playing field. You know 'those guys' who blast by with their 11.0's and Formula boards ? Back of the Kona fleet.

I bought a used West Winds 280 that was custom finished (graphs and footstrap positions) by Bob Tatman, an engineer at Windsurfing Hawaii, in 1988. Like some of Robby Naish's boards, it had a couple of in-line back footstraps. I rode that board until early 1992 when I bought my first Mike's Lab. The Wind Winds shape was a very quick and fun board for the time.
