|
|
Check out this creation from Windance Boardshop
http://www.windance.com/Windsurf-Windsurf-Foils/?subcategory=PowerPlate
The PowerPlate fits into to any Powerbox or Tuttle box board so you can attach any foil that uses the industry standard 4-hole top plate. $199, made in The Gorge
It has tons of fore & aft adjustment to allow you to tune the amount of lift you get and fit to your board/foil better.
I have tried it on a 84 & 114 liter boards with both the LP & Slingshot foils using sails from 4.2m2 to 5.5m2 with great results.
The last time I rode on a 5.5m2 foiling and a regular windsurfer was barely planing on a 8.0m2
Windsurf foiling it turns out is easier to learn than kite-foiling since you are holding the boom which is essentially attached to the foil. Plus when uphauling the foil steadys the board.

If you hit something you come to a screeching halt!. Ha.
So far I haven't done that but from those I have heard that have hit a fish ( cut in 2) or a log or the bottom the rider has gone out the front door but no damage. If you were to damage something I would hope the fin bolts sheared, that would be cheapest. The PowerPlate spreads the load pretty good though.
Just to be safe I ran a thin leash line from the upper mast to my rear footstraps so I wouldn't lose the whole foil. |

How does the plate attach to the board? |

Two hundred bucks for a fin base mounted to an aluminum plate with a few holes drilled in it ....
I would be concerned about the moment (torque) being applied to the fin box with the foil being installed so far in front of the box. It is definitely not something most boards are designed for.

Hey guys I appreciate your feedback. A few notes: the powerbox head is milled from solid aluminum and tapped to 6mm. The plate is also solid aluminum and drilled & tapped to 6mm for 28 holes. The padding is from NSI and a high density foam. This kind of machining costs money and it's not China built.
As for placement this offers a range that is big enough for all boards, I have tested it for that.
Try it, you'll like it.

traditional power box pot has a barrel nut placed in such a manner that if one runs aground hard or encounters a large obstacle, the barrel nut tears away and one loses the fin, and not breaking the board.
i would recommend using a very disposable board for foiling endeavors with this system. the risk of running aground hard coupled with the threaded pot instead of barrel nut increases the odds of buckling or shearing the board.
that said. great adaptation to this "new" twist to windsurfing. best use of foils is in very deep venues. too many spots close to me are too shallow, and i would rather wave sail.... _________________ www.aerotechsails.com
