I have used both,Monster and Goop spay cans, also the RedDek.
Monster is pretty good, be careful apply in light coats, I have had interaction in the form of blisters when too thick.
Would like any other home formulas to try ? _________________ K4 fins

I have used spay on acrylic paint (though I prefer epoxy paint), and sugar,
done properly it makes a great deck. I've also used salt with good results,
and, I've sprayed in washed sand, which isn't as pretty as acrylic dust, but
will last longer than the board structure does (and be very rough).

2 good 5.0 days on the homemade re-Dek and all is fine.
Trust me, If I had made a mess out of things, I would have shared that too.

epoxy over polyester, okay. poly over epoxy no way.
new sail, old board okay if you base all the way back.
in shit pots of wind, any kit will work.
huge fin, base forward, foot straps forward?????
try base back, way less fin, and foot straps further back. you may like it even better.
SDM masts in jack hammer chop with ballistic wind, way better. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

In my experience, that applies primarily when board age is defined by mast track position instead of calendar years. Many boards > 20 -- even 25 -- years old have their mast tracks located at modern positions. Some sailors still have their custom boards built wth the mast tracks way forward, use modern sails, and have a lot of fun. There's still room for personal choices even if not for optimum performance. |

fyi..for the best traction deck ever... that produces the perfect blend between ultimate traction but not cutting you.. and lasts for life of board.
Acrylic dust and automotive clear coat.
the clear coat is: two part polyurethane "overall" clear coat. buy at any automotive paint store.
Acrylic dust you can buy (sometimes) or make your own.
when applied correctly it is by far superior to every traction deck i have experienced and outlasts the life of the board while looking like the day you applied it and it does not add alot of weight to the board.

Salt + moisture can do bad things to some uncured epoxy. I dripped a bit of sweat on a board during layup once and noticed that it was gummy (during sanding) It never cured 100% in that spot.

Keith, The automotive poly's are great finishes, but I don't think you can buy them everywhere. They require the use of positive ventilation breather masks. Most shops in MI won't sell to rookies. YMMV
BTW, how do you make acrylic dust? _________________ Brian S
