We just got a Fed X from Maui, 160 buck, for a board.
I just got a Fed X from Hood River, a board, for 120.

I use my FEDEX account when able, printing the shipping label at home, this saves me a little. Sails have never been a issue , costs have gone up, cost will be determined on ship to location and size..25--40$. Hawaii is more costly.
I stay away from international unless using eBay global shipping.

160 from Maui is cheap, 120 from HR is normal.

$250 from Europe for a 100l.

According to FEDEX the size limitations for ground shipping do not vary with a business account , shipping a lot , the rate will be negotiated but the sizes will not. It's possible to slip a oversize if it's not measured at first contact.

You don't need a business license , it's possible to get a better rate with more shipments. The freight section is different, they were able to quote a better rate than the Internet prices, still expensive.

I have an account with FedEx, and used to be a UPS vendor..... and there used to be good prices, but not any more. I also have a business, as some freight carriers only ship business to business.

Might try to set up some air freight accounts... got a quote from Southwest to ship across country for $150.... but still expensive.

And FWIW, in my day job, shipping common carrier is a disaster. Lately the majority of shipments have damage... but getting better as 20 years ago, 100% had damage.

150 IMO is the going rate.

When fuel costs were up , the costs were raised, and stated that way, including fuel surcharge
And they get away with it cause the options aren't there

I have shipped many boards via Amtrak. Cost is cheap; approximately $60. Never had damage or any other issues.

You have to drop off and pick up from an Amtrak station that handles freight. Delivery date is approximate, depending on when a train with a baggage car is available. Usually multiple trains are needed unless there is a direct connection between stations. Destination Amtrak station will call you when the shipment arrives.

Here's a link with their phone number;

The key to using Amtrak is location of the drop off has to be one that takes freight goods whatever, and it must be one that receives it on the other end.

Making it not so useable, convient.. If it works and is still that cheap then it's great.

Well, I ended up using Pilot Freight. Cost $200 to ship a board and sail from CA to FL... not horribly cheap, but the deliver was reasonable. Didn't hurt the equipment, but the box was scraped up a bit. Fortunately, packaging was good.

I looked into the airlines, which would have been cheaper, but the hassle with TSA and delivery didn't work.

Not much choice.
