Hi Guys,
I was sailing yesterday at the local hole with winds gusting between 30-35k. I weigh 170, sailing on a tiga 263 bump & jump (75 liters) 8-1/2fin. 95 north zeta 4.2 rigged w/ way more downhaul & outhaul than mfgr recommends-sail was flat as a board. I got pounded! Problem was, the sail felt so twitchy, I could never get balanced. Lulls were way underpowered, gusts were death-defying! Did I screw the rigging up, or do the new sails/boards work much better? I used the recommended mast for that sail. Thought I had it wired, but yesterday was humbling. Thanks for any help. |

Board-flat = twitchy; its that simple. HOW twitchy depends on the sail, but no sail is going to sail as well over-flattened as it does rigged right. Generally, newer = better in terms of wind range.

Thanks for the help. By the way, what do you know about the Tiga 263 b&j? Ive owned it for a few years, but at my weight it needs 20mph min. When its really windy, however, Ive not found another board that handles bumps, swell and turns as well in those conditions. My question is, can that board handle 35-40k, with a small fin, and the sail properly rigged? Thanks, again |
