Rigging varies depending on the make and model of the sail. Most sail companies post the rigging directions for their sails on their web page. If that doesnt help, contact the person who sold you the sail (if you can) or take it to a dealer and ask. |

I agree, that you should atleast read or find out what the general rigging requirements are for this sail. But I think there are some simple tips when riggin any sail.
First, you look on the sail or sail bag to get the Luff and Boom sizes. Based on the Luff size, you can pick the correct mast (IMCS and length), I would guess that your sail is something like a 490 mast or bigger, with a fairly stiff IMCS. Given the correct mast, you make the final adjustments with the mast extension and/or the head cap adjustment.
The Boom is set according to the marking on the sail.
Basically, you put in the mast and start to downhaul the sail a little bit. Then place the boom on the mast, and attach the clew rope.
Then continue to downhaul the sail, and if this is a modern sail, the leech area (top of sail) should fall off when enough downhaul tension is applied. Also the outhaul should be set according to the sail marking.
Once the sail is downhauled and outhauled, then if there are still wrinkles in the sail, you need to tighten the batten tension. But be careful not to overtighten the battens. Just enough to remove the wrinkles.
Obviously these are general guidelines, and you should understand the actual instructions for the sail. |
