There are some really nice beach campsites at kanaha that are run by the county or state. You need a permit and theres a 3 nite max. Do a google.com search on Maui camping. You can also camp over at camp pecusa, but thats over near lahaina. You used to be able to camp over at the kuau (sp)
lighthouse. It wasnt legal, but is (was) fairly well known and I camped there for a month with lots of other windsurfers etal- a permanent camp of local meth heads. without any hassle. You had to break camp every am. Wed go over to kanaha and use the showers and facilities. Other options might be to befriend a local and slip them some cash to pitch a tent on their property or Ive heard you can pretend that youre fishing and get away with camping that way. |
