Im going to Kauai in July to get married! Should I bring gear or rent? I have good wave sails from 4.0 to 5.7 & slalom to 6.0. 9 slalom or 88 bump & jump? I dont want to pack heavy but I also dont want to be stranded with the wrong gear! Im normally not happy with rental gear ... is it a hassle with the airlines? Any comments are appreciated

OK for the record, windsurfing on Kauai is great. However, most of the sailing is open ocean or surf with no beach to rest on. July will have wind on both north and south shores. The north shore will be flat, south will be waves. There is NO gear for rent unless you are learning. Sail sizes are generally bigger than Maui. So 5.0-6.5 would be the call.

Thanks Ian for the info ... I suspected that I would need to bring my own. My fiance is learning and she wants to rent (at least a board). I think I read that she can take lessons at Anini Beach ... we are staying on Hanalei Bay.

We are looking forward to doing so much more on the Island, but we also dont want to miss out on some windsurfing.

Ive sailed on Maui and dont expect the same conditions, but who wouldnt look forward to sailing those spectacular blue waters!

Be sure to say Hi to Celeste and Foster for me! (they are the people that rent @ Anini)
Where are you staying Hanalei? There actually can be good sailing right there. 6.5 and slalom stuff but real fun.

We sure will, we are staying at the Hanalei Colony Resort & the person I spoke with on the phone says her husband sails at a point that is very close to the resort. Sounds like a good place to start for my fiance.

The point close to The Colony resort is NOT the place for learning. They were talking about YCAMP or Tunnels. Both are great places to sail but much more advanced (narrow channels/shallow reef) You may have fun out there but you will want to pay attention to where you are. If you go too far out next stop Niihau or Alaska.
