Rent/buy on the south/east side of town and split for the continents best (?) sailing every weekend. Youre just 3.5 hours from the Gorge, and can just follow the line of boardheads down every Friday. Of course, they do check the forecasts first, but alse make their own judgement.

We have lots of water here but not much wind. you can short board on the Sound when storms come through, but they are unpredictable and can be short lived. i am in Seattle so do not know the everett area. i agree with the other Mike: spend your weekends in the Gorge ( it has been 3.5-5.0 the last 2 weekends) and if there is no wind it is still an incredible place.
Everett/Seattle is a great area for Kite surfing.

Purdy gets good wind in the spring and fall. Not as good as the gorge, but 4.5-5.0 is not unheard of.

I have surfed the world over and short of wave sailing, some of the best conditions can be found in Puget Sound. The most consistent fall spot is Marrowstone Island. The East side of the island (the park by the light house) can be gnarly on an ebbing tide, use caution or you will know the meaning of the word straight. Any of the points on the East side of the sound Alki, Shilshole, Richmond Beach and Kayak offer great sailing when the fall winds howl from the SE-SW.

Everett, WA ... I would head up closer to Kayak Point Park north of Everett. Seems that when the frontal winds come through, this place rips more often than not compared to other sites. Many fall/winter days in the 3.5-4.5 range, hope you have a flexible job:-)

Problem is the drive to the gorge and Oregon Coast is longer when you live up there, but you can still make short trips to lake Wenatchee when you just need a day fix in the 5.0-6.5 range, it is on Hwy 2 over the pass.

Richmond Beach absolutely rips and its 10 minutes from Everette. Big swell, nice sandy beach, some breakers in close (watch the fin).

The biggest drag is the walk over the tracks while carrying gear in 30 knots and totally exhausted. The best sailing in the NorthWest is September thru December. Water is warm, air is warm and it blows quite often. Enjoy!
