Im dying to get out of the NW Colorado reservoirs. My sister lives in Flagstaff and it would be a really good excuse to leave if I knew if it blew in Mohave or Havasu. Please help, I don;t want to buy a Vision 170.

I have sailed Lake Mojave for years and LOVE it, especially when the water is warm (it is VERY chilly in the winter and spring).

I approach the lake from the west (Im in Calif.) but Im sure you can find excellent windsurfing on the eastern side. Most windsurfers go to Katherines Landing, but if you have a 4WD vehicle you can find your own private windsurfing beach, which is what I do.

I find a secluded cove, set up a tent, rig up a few different size sails (5.0 - 6.5), and leave them on the beach. Its like being at a beach-front resort. I mostly sail a 9.0 wave-slalom (yes, the swells get pretty big out in the middle). I bring a longboard for light days, which is fun for exploring coves. I have have even sailed the longboard on breezy nights with a full moon, talk about a dreamy experience. The lake is so huge that you can hook in, lean back, and sail in one direction for 15 or 20 minutes.

Keep an eye on the wind, because it stops as quickly as it starts. I have been stranded a few times miles out in the middle of the lake. Fortunately, I have never had to ditch my rig and paddle back. I have always been able to float around (which is nice when the water is warm in the summer) for 10 or 15 minutes max before the wind picked up just enough to make it back to camp.

After a few days of roughing it, I like to spend the last day in Laughlin, Nev. I leave my gear on my truck, valet park (theyll keep an eye on your stuff) at a nice hotel (nice but very cheap), and pig out at one of the buffets...
