| I will be in Kauai in August. The big debate is whether to bring the gear or not. Is it windy this time of the year? any swell worth surfing? Should I forget about bringing gear in favor of renting when it blows? |

Aloha-
Take a look at my last Kauai response...
August can be windy although it tends to be the lightest month. The North shore will be 5.0-6.0ish (6.5+ at Anini) Tunnels and Ycamp will be sailable with little to no surf. On the South Shore Mahalepu will be your best bet for wave sailing (port jumps starboard surfing) side-off and really fun!
