It seems that the water off the south coast of Cape Cod may be finally warming enough to eliminate decoupling of the warm southwest winds from the water surface. Yesterday, for example, W. Dennis wind readings were in the low to mid 20s and these are consistent with yesterdays on-water conditions (lots of planning with 5.0-6.0 sails). This past Saturday, however, saw very disappointing conditions at W. Dennis (though Kalmus did fine, go figure). Perhaps the water has just warmed enough to finally let the winds drift down to the water. I have been wondering if there is anything the windsurfing community can do to assist iWindsurf to more accurately predict decoupling. Would it be usefull for folks to e-mail on-water conditions on these threatened decoupling days? I am also curious whether you have access to good local sea temperature measurements. To date, all Ive found on the web is buoy data that is all way off shore (my guess is that its not that relevant). Any web sites with local water temperature? Perhaps you could get lifeguards to phone in the water temperatures at a few choice beaches for a couple a bucks.
I think the wind hotline forecasts have improved over the years and commend your skill and effort. Keep up the good work!!

what exactly is decoupling? Ive heard it referred to a lot in the forcasts but never really understood what it meant. |
