Does anyone have advice on how to repair the clear part of a sail that looks like someone took a knife and sliced an L shape(about 4 tall by 4 wide)? |

Very simple... Clean both sides of the monofilm and repair with monofilm tape (clear packing tape works great). Make sure you tape on both sides and be meticulous (no bubbles, clean, etc). If you really want to be thorough, round off the corners of the tape. Ive had repaired wave sails take beatings and survive this way for years. |

Packing tape will work great. Two suggestions:
1). Clean the effected area with soapy water. Dry and then rub with rubbing alcohol. Then apply the tape.
2). 3M makes this packing tape that is SUPER strong. Im not sure what its called, but unlike their other tapes, when you look at it on the roll, it is slightly yellow (but clear, without any bubbles inside the roll). Dont worry, the individual strips of tape are almost completely clear. The packaging on the tape says that this is 3Ms strongest tape. Cut the strips of tape into long ovals before applying so that there are no sharp corners that can lift off. Tape both sides of the sail.
This makes for an amazingly stong fix if done properly.

Check out Gold Coast Canvas for expert repair
(305) 285-0100. I had a 4.7 NR with a similar problem repaired by them expertly. |
