North wind will not be a problem for the Rt 12 weak spots north of Buxton. North wind is blowing parallel to the island and does not blow water onto route 12.

only time it floods north of buxton is with an insane west wind 60+ for hours (in that case its soundside flooding which recedes very fast) or strong NE wind that goes on for days on end (in that case its ocean side flooding)

NCDOT has lots of machinery in place all long rt12 all year long now. and cleans up the road pretty fast. so no worries. come on down and enjoy the wind.

Thanks, HatterasFever, that's the info I was looking for. We'll be leaving a couple of days early, anyway - gives us a chance to catch the north winds on the water, and to see some friends that are leaving Saturday. Live is not so bad when you "have to" add time to a Hatteras vacation Smile.

Hope your travel is good, and the wind even better.
Save me a seat at POPS.

Please remain calm and don't abandon any hopes or dreams of traveling to Cape Hatteras. For the love of waves and a nice tailwind!

Ummm
Saw that rt12 was washed out around Kitty Hawk

So all this was a real concern ...
Big shock to me

Live and learn

well, actually Rt 12 collapsed in KH, but of no concern for any windsurfers travelling to Avon. Its basically only in front of the Black Pelican in Kitty Hawk. I saw it the other night while at dinner there, and it looks similar to Mirlo with lost road surface and missing sand under the road bed.

However, will not impact traffic/movement around the OBX.

just to be clear.. the 4 lane highway (rt 12) was never in any danger of flooding. the road being talked about is the old rt 12 road and is practically in the dune at this location. so relax.
