Berkeley is about 7 miles farther than TI.
Depends what kind of gear you want to use.
Slalom boards, go to Berkeley.
Wave and high wind gear, go to TI on EBB TIDES.

What most people don't know that can be "epic" as well is in this scenario:
-flood + SW flow + Blunt reading high, when:
+flood is generally about 1/2 that of crissy current
+near shore during flood usually creates disorganized chops

Then your go to spots are: Shoreline, Palo Alto, 3rd, Coyote, Candlestick. The coast, depending on skills.
As far as Coyote being choppy, it depends. Generally, yes. I think 3rd is smoother and more organized. However, all spots are tide dependent. Flood tends to be more choppy and certainly harder to stay to weather. Candlestick it less effected. Also, wind direction makes a huge impact. More west = more choppy as the fetch puts you directly into oncoming chop. NW is the preferred direction. Timing matters. Some days are like 3 days in 1.
As far as Crissy Field, I think one reach is like 3 days in 1!, since the currents vary greatly. Outside the north tower can be rolling butter smooth conditions, while on the same day (and reach), inside the south tower can be a moving mogul field.

Very nice day at the Stick with powered up 4.3 from 2:30 to 4:30. Than the wind drops probably because the fog bank is finally spilling closer and it is time to go home. Crissy fogged in all day, I wonder if TI was working.
Day after at TI, get there very early (first one out) and go out with 4.3. Slog a bit but then it comes up strong all the way to been quite overpowered and overboard: nice. Lot's of people out, what a great spot!

I was at Crissy on saturday and Coyote on sunday. Was pretty good !
But Coyote Point is so choppy, I don't really like it with a 85L.

Go way outside. A couple of miles or more on port side and by the time you reach the outside markers the chop decreases significantly and the rollers are much better organized. Got some great days out there with 1/2-3/4 mast high breaking rollers!

Couple nice weekend days at Berkeley, mid 5's, well powered for over 3 hours, no, I didn't say continuously for that time.

After two days on the 4.1 at TI, escaped the crowds and had a big Sunday on the 4.1 in the vastness of San Pablo Bay on some smooth long period big rolling swell. Thanks to the kind folks at the 4 Fools Winery, who we checked in with before going, for the easy and secure access. Ross

Third day in a row of Dawn Patrol windsurfing! Here's the only known photo of John Kramer getting air at the end of this morning's session.

We found a really nice launch in Hercules, just 200' from the water, at the intersection of Railroad and something, right below the restaurant on the hill overlooking the launch.
You do need to walk over the rail track, but the distance is about 200' total.

Andy D., I resurrected the old thread from late last year. It has a picture of the boat ramp. The parking and rigging is right next to the ramp. Ross
