Yesterday at Candlestick, a small shark hooked to a fishing line was found.
It was a small shark as you can see below. Someone had some pliers and cut the hook. Then the shark was released back into the water at which point he swam away.
Great! It looks like a juvenile Leopard Shark. It will NOT grow up to harm us as it's a bottom feeding crustacean feeder. Good job on removing the hook before release!
yes small leopard. Extremely common in the bay, caught all the time by the shore fisherman. Good job releasing it, completely harmless to people. Check with people fishing along the shore and you'll see they catch them all the time.
I have seen these (along with bat rays) a number of times while paddleboarding at Bodega Harbor, when there is not enough wind to sail. They are elegant creatures.
