Oh dude. Its official. Tyson Poor and I are headed back to Cabarete April 13th for another round of Cabarete Pro Clinics. I think this is 4 years in a row. Last year we had solid wind every day and it started with the biggest swell they saw all year. I managed to make it out after 5 chicken Jibes and caught 4 waves before breaking my mast and spending the next hour and a half swimming in. That happy hour was legendary though. What a greeting.
After that we had solid 5.0 and waist to head high waves all week, perfect for teaching. We saw people learn a lot from getting dialed in the straps to throwing their first loops on the reef. Cabarete is perfect for all levels with nice bump and jump conditions on the inside and waves 300 yes out at the reef.
Plus the nightlife is all time and the food and beer are good and cheap.
We have two rounds of clinics set up through Vela first one starts April 13th.
Its going to be all time!

Dude that was an incredible session. Soo huge it broke all the way up to the bar at Vela. Thank goodness the swell got smaller after the weekend so we could teach. What an introduction. I just wish I had a rash guard or something so I didn't chafe my nipples raw on the hour long paddle in. hahah
So stoked. Buying my ticket right now. Last year was such a hoot, with people learning to get in the straps the same day we had people learning to loop. Soo much fun. And since all the Cabarete Beach boys were there the reef was going off with hooting and hollering and back loops. So much windsurf pride going on. Can't wait to get back. Definitely need a club sandwich or 10 from the Vela restaurant. ahhhhh so ready to be back
A tradition unlike any other.

Nice backie!
To avoid long swims and possible loss of more gear, I slide off the top of the mast and put it back in the sail upside down. Then I slide the top part inside the broken bottom section and pull the top of the sail to unwrinkle it the best I can.
It basically makes a short mast, can water start and nearly plane! The boom might need to get lowered depending how far up it broke.
Anyway that day there were lots of debris in the reef from the rain right? Pretty awesome you caught some waves, must have had a nice slope to them! The day after was pretty amazing with a much more manageable reef.
Good job on making it in an hour, took me 1.5h
with just the sail. A day with little current too.

One month till the next round of clinics kicks off.
Tickets are locked and loaded and we are fired up to head back to Cabarete and teach some tricks.
We had two great groups last year and 14 of 14 days of wind.
I even here some of the windsurf beach boys are going to be back in town so the reef will be alive with action. YEEEEWWWW!!!

I was there until Tuesday, scored seven days in a row, plus a private lesson with Wyatt on Saturday. What a great teacher, and all-around great guy. Class was in session on Monday (a 4.8 day for me), and from what I could tell everyone was having a blast.
Sweet Home Cabarete (those who have been down there have heard the song).

I think I saw someone yesterday throwing tricks in the bay. I spend most of my time in the waves, apart from yesterday, and is probably why I missed what was going on.
