Done here, and probably most of the rest of the mid-west is done: the last 10 days of below freezing temps have frozen the lakes. Ice is hard on expensive windsurfing equipment.

Someone needs to make a windsurfing boom with a much smaller diameter , about the same size as a kite bar. I think it would be a game changer in forearm fatigue and solve this age old, cold hand problem. I wear 5mm neil pryde lobster claws down into the mid thirties and they work great when kiting, not so great when windsurfing...

Great time of the year to take apart your UJ's and replace them. Small money, big risk. In any case, dress and sail like you might have to swim back to where you started.

I don't kite, but I thought part of the problem is that windsurfers tend to hold more of their weight with their arms. Some windsurfers with excellent technique can sail for hours with thick gloves, which seems to support this theory. Is it wrong?

I would say its about the same grip, maybe a little stronger for windsurfing. I do believe the smaller diameter makes a huge difference.

I don't think it is the diameter so much. Unless you are unhooked 25% of the time while you kite you are not comparing apples with apples.
Next time you kite unhook for all your transitions, jumps and when ever you are on a wave face. Wink

My most comfortable boom was a Naish carbon/ aluminum combo. It had the smallest diameter of any boom I have ever owned.
